Meet Damon

Dad taught me a lot about life through fishing. As a school teacher he’d have summers off. We spent most every weekend on the Alabama River chasing blue gill and catfish. He taught me to slow down and recognize the natural order of things. It was so peaceful out there.

Recovery has a way of teaching you how to live slowly as well. All this “one day at a time” stuff is completely counter to modern western society. Self control and restraint is something you see less everyday. Recovery is different. Just knowing that my life has meaning and purpose makes recovery worth it despite past mistakes.

I was a full blown pornography addict by age 11, addicted all through high school and college. It consumed me until a friend told me about a small group which meet once a week.

Yeah, it was a step-based group. We changed materials from time to time. Sometimes there were seven steps, sometimes 12 or 18. We even had one book with 101 weekly exercises!

June 1st, 2009, marks seven years of sobriety for me. Seven years of fighting and crying, but the joy of seeing others live in freedom has given me a desire to encourage people in recovery.

That’s me, the short version at least. Hey, may I ask you something? Let me know of your success stories and defeats, insights and wisdom. I love hearing people’s stories and proverbial phrases and such things. You can either leave comments or shoot me an email at recovercast [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks for visiting. No matter where you are in recovery – just starting, 20 year veteran, or two years sober – let’s go through this thing together.

Be well,
Damon
